66 got engine swap

We swapped out the non running 292 today on the 66, and installed a used running 292. Trying to keep it stock for now.
Special Thank you to (C10 Willie) you are the best. Thank you for all the work and the engine.

I believe you're looking at the smog pump/air pump. It was part of the emissions equipment. Most people tossed them out, and the complete original setup can be very hard to find on certain restorations (like Corvettes):

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...word=smog+pump

The Wikipedia description sums up its purpose:

"Secondary air injection (commonly known as air injection, or colloquially smog pump) is a vehicle emissions control strategy introduced in 1966, wherein fresh air is injected into the exhaust stream to allow for a fuller combustion of exhaust gases".

Re: 66 got engine swap

You got it. It is a smog pump 66 first year for the pump. I am keeping it for a later rebuild.
The new engine is 65. it did not have the pump.

Re: 66 got engine swap

And there is nothing wrong with having the smog pump on..All it really did was pump fresh air into the exaust to help burn the unburned gas that went though.
