My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
Well this weekend almost killed me, but the suspension is done. Static drop with spindles, springs, and flip in rear. Also rebuilt the front suspension with new bushings, ball joints, and steering components. Drives GREAT!
First pic is how she came home. Second is with the new rolling stock. Third is half way done. I did the easy end first. And then the fruits of my labors!

Just bought a L33 all aluminum 5.3L and 4l60e to replace the TBI 350/700r4. Can't wait to get started on the swap!

Looks 1000% better. That truck will be really sweet with that engine swap.

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
Thanks guys! Yep, it definitely has a sport bumper in it's future! The front bumper guards will also be coming off. I scored a '91 GMC core support and grille assembly for it last weekend also.

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
It's a McGaughys kit and I think they advertise is as 4.5/6. The front spindles are 2.5 inch and the springs are 2 inch. I went with the McGaughys kit because it comes with the C-notch for the rear flip kit.

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
Thanks everyone! They are Boss 338's. 18x8 and 18x9.5 with Nitto 555's 245/45 and 295/45. I had one of the early sets of Boss 338's that required some "massaging" to fit, but these new ones simply bolt right on. I'm glad they got that problem fixed.
I read Glock's entire "Fred" build thread and that convinced me I NEED a late model motor. I really like the weight savings of the L33 and the fact that it also has the LS6 heads. Once the drive train is done I will focus on the paint. The body is really straight, but the factory paint is definitely showing it's age.

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
Thanks! Yes it is nice to see the results. In my job the majority of what I do I never get to see the end result of, so this is my ocupational therapy! Mike

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
The L33 5.3 will make that truck a BLAST to drive. Make sure you start a build thread once you get that project going, can't wait to see it.

Re: My weekend accomplishments - '87 build
What back spacing do your 338's have? This is the EXACT set up I have planned for my 81 shorty. Did you have any issues with the McGaughey's 4.6/6 drop kit? Where did you buy your tires and rims? Looks great! It gives me an excellent idea of how mine will look.

The wheels have 4.5 inches of back spacing on the front and 5 in the rear. I bought them from a guy on ebay. Here's the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boss-Motorsp...item5d30ef542b
