door latch assembly

hi guys,

does anybody have an exploded diagram of a door latch assembly. Basically if I could get a whole inner door diagram that would be great. It's time to rebuild so I can open the door and stop my remakes of the Dukes of Hazard.

thanks

steve

If you're doing it on the truck in your avatar, that would be something to see!

Re: door latch assembly

Here's a link to an article in Custom Classic trucks magazine that has lots of pictures in it of working on a door. It might help some.

Well thank you very much Jim. Both the inner and outer handles are worn out on my driver's door. The inner handle rotates around very loosely on the latch control and the outer button doesn't pop back out when depressed. I have to use my knife or a screw driver to pop it back out. I will tear the door apart tomorrow and see what the wear looks like on everything else. I may replace it all, just have to see.

Not sure what borders on the rules here but if it sounds like you have the parts I may need I will happily take you up on your offer. PM me the details.

Thank you sir.

No it wouldn't! We'd quickly lose our PG rating.

Re: door latch assembly

Steve...In addition to these great responses, now would be a good time to pick up a factory assembly manual to help you out...They do offer it in a CD format that's searchable (cuz those of us who have one know how disorganized it is!!!)

Re: door latch assembly

Steve, it looks like you have some good responses. If that does not help, there was an article in Classic Trucks a few years ago that had a very good step by step guide for rebuilding 67-72 doors, complete with pictures of each step. If you need it, I can look up what year and month it was, and you can see how far they go back in their archives.

Yep I keep my scrubby Chilton directly under my bible so I can prey(beg) for patience before each project. Mine covers 1970-79. Why they printed these across the body change years is beyond me. So naturally the only 2 pics they show of the exploded handle mechanisms are for the square body. No matter, it shouldn't be that tough to pull apart and eyeball what I need. I've always wanted a dvd how-to manual. Why get my book greasy when I can get the wife's remote greasy! Nothing like moving up. I'm sure I can google it but if you have a readily available link toss it up sir. Much appreciated.

That would be great! Please do if it don't put you out too much.

Thank you much guys. I'll pull that inner door skin about noonish.

Thanks Reno, I'll look into one of these. I think I would like a dvd copy too so I'll search around for that as well.

Re: door latch assembly

Thank you.

There is snow in the upper elevations but I'm at 3,000 feel here in Kalispell, no snow down low. It has been a very warm winter so far. Supposed to get a few inches next week.
