Interesting crewcab on CL

Found this interesting 4 door crewcab on craigslist, owner claims its factory. Looks to be done by someone other than Scott-Bilt or Alton...maybe Superior? It does look to be a period done conversion and probably not owner built. I do like the look better than the more common double cab type.

Re: Interesting crewcab on CL

Still that would be really cool to have. There used to be a 1972 Chevy pickup that used to sit in the forest behind my house, I guess someone just left it out there.

Kind of what I was thinking. Yes it's cool, but an empty cab. If I had more scratch laying around I'd try to work something with him.

No, the roof looks right. That would be a nice cab to start with but as you can see it's uncovered sitting in the elements, that's what kind of bothers me. I guess really, it wouldn't be bad just because it would save a guy a ton of work.

Re: Interesting crewcab on CL

Well I have too say I'm pretty interested in the truck. I just called the guy and he was pretty decent to talk to. It has the raised roof lights like a 1 ton truck would of, normal rust for a cab sitting in the elements, clutch pedals are there, missing original glove box and a/c stuff, says he has odd and ends for the interior, looks like all 4 rockers need replaced with front floors and the drivers rear door is dented pretty good and he said it hasn't been opened since 78?? Anyways, he seems pretty firm on the price, He actually has it listed on ebay so he won't sell it till the auction ends and he said the reserve is higher than the 3000.00 on craigslist. huh? I really doubt that he will sell it for either price. But then again, there is alot of guys out there with deeper pockets than me that might not be able to live without it.

Re: Interesting crewcab on CL

I talked to him yesterday and got the same info. Turns out he's a friend of a friend, he told me if it doesn't sell on eBay he may do some trading with me. I've got my fingers crossed. If it works out for me my 70 gmc swb may become a crew cab.

Good luck. It looks like a good start to a nice truck project.

Re: Interesting crewcab on CL

I agree that the asking price is high, however it is definately much better looking than the usual double cab setup. I would think that it would be easier to repair rust/dents than fabricating a whole new cab from scratch. Yes/No?

Re: Interesting crewcab on CL

It would definaltly be a good start but there were a few things that concerned me, the roofs on these trucks are usually a problem area and this one is no different. Also this truck has external hinges for the rear doors..kinda like the cars of the 30s. I'm sure with some work it could be made to be a very cool truck, just too much work for me.

I agree. For the repair work it needs you would be better off building your own and doing the doors the right way. Keeping the truck doors in the front just doesn't look right to me.
