OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
I have a 79 GMC and i'm looking for some OEM doors cause mine are getting rusty on the bottom. I have woodgrain door panels out of a 77 that i still want to use...my question is: which year doors will my 77 door panels work on ? I was originally told they will only work on 77-80 OEM doors. But now i've heard that they will work on 77-87 OEM doors. Would love to see what you guys think before i go out and find/purchase some OEM doors. Thanks.

Re: OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
Your door panels will work on doors from 77-up. '87 is the last year for pickups, but the front doors for Blazers, Suburbans, and Crew Cabs will work up to '91.

Re: OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
i changed the door panels from 78 to 89
i think one bolt hole for the vent window didn't line up and the inside handle ... the older rods use metal clips the newer ones use plastic bits I coudn't combine them so i used the newer handles,in older doors and i noticed the glass is thicker in the older doors

Re: OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
Jonboy, thanks for the info man, i appreciate it. Looking for OEM doors from 77-87 expands my chances of finding doors quicker than if i was looking for 77-80 doors.
motornut, you bring up some good points...i forgot about the glass being thicker in the older doors. I have some vent windows out of a 76 that i was hoping to install in the OEM doors i end up getting...but if i get late 80s doors, the vent window glass from the 76 vent windows will be thicker than the door window glass in the doors. Do you know what year the glass thickness changed ? If i got late 80s doors, could i put my thicker glass from my current 79 doors into the late 80s doors ? Perhaps it would be easier to just stick with my search for OEM doors from the years 77-80...although that really does narrow my chances in finding doors.

i did put one of the 78 vents back into the 89,seemed ok I was wondering if the weather stripping was different sizes too but i did use the 89 inside and outside felt/rubber

Re: OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
Just checked LMC and they have the door window glass, as well as the door window components, listed for 73-80 and then 81-87. So i'm assuming it's 1981 when the glass went thinner.

Re: OEM doors that work with 77 door panels ?
I've put the newer vent glasses in the older trucks with no problems. There are 2 screws in the forward jamb on the older vents, where there is only 1 in the newer ones, but it's a running change somewhere around '88-89 or so. I like to look for the newer vent glasses in the pick- a-parts because the rubber is usually inbetter shape. I hate rebuilding vent window assemblies. The shape of the glass is different, but the assemblies will physically interchange. The ones in my '74 right now came out of an '87.
