I use 3-M seam sealer, make sure that you get the paintable kind.

I used the 3M "fast and firm" sealer, but then had much better luck with the "brushable" seam sealer. The trick is to mask it off on both sides, then brush the stuff in the seam and remove the masking tape.

When you fill the rail, are you filling it to the top? So that there is no place for water to accumulate?

I've used the fast-n-firm but now im finding that in some areas, it must shrink as there are cracks or gaps. (this is in areas where it was applied thin)
Next time 'round, I may look for something more flexable. Fast-n-firm dries quite hard.

I didn't fill the area to the top. I just brushed a couple of layers over the trough.
