Hood Bolts??
I need help with the size of the bolts that hold the hood to the hood hinges. Thank you for the help

You both realize that they are special sholdered bolts correct? You can't use just regular bolts. You might just want to pick up a set from Classic truck parts of America.

Its an american thread and although they are shoulder bolts, function wise they do not need to be. I used over the counter s.s. bolts with 2 size s.s. washers and it looks and functions just fine.

Gee guess I got lucky, in 85 mine were pretty crusty so I just used standard grade 5 hex bolts and washers. They worked for 15 years as a dd. I think the original intent of the shoulder bolts with the knurled backs was to eliminate the need for lock washers on the assembly line.

yes its just a locking bolt shoulder bolts ,,i use regual 9/16 bolts with lock washers and a washer also never had a problem ,,i went stainless too ,or grab some fender bolts same size from a junk yard ..lol

a regular bolt is too sloppy,right? talking about a 51 hood.. |
