63 C10 with torsion bars?

Bought a 63 yesterday, got this because of the NEW 700r4 and one piece driveshaft, also has a 350 with headers, hei, highrise and new carb, swapping parts into my other 63.
Was surprised to find it had a torsion bar front end. Is this possible? One friend suggested it might be early 63, pink says 63, or do you think its a 63 cab on an early chassis?
I'll do more checks today and try to get some pics up ...

As this is the first I've ever heard of a 63 with torsion bars... I'll go with your second option - 63 cab on earlier chasis. It would be interesting if you found documentation of an overlap.

first easy check would be the second digit in the VIN number, which should be the year model of the cab (2 for '62, 3 for '63).

If you check the upper frame rail near the steering box you will find the last few digits of the VIN. These numbers should match the last few digits of the cab VIN plate. It looks like you have a 61 so the torsion bars would be correct.

Whether it has a mechanical or hydraulic clutch will help with identification as well.

I meant the first digit, of course

if I read these things right, 1C144 means '61 1/2 ton short wb stepside

Re: 63 C10 with torsion bars?

in the 60s and 70s it wasnt unusual to title new vehicles the year they were sold. I bought a 74 bmw 2002 from the original owner that was clearly a more desirable 73. He said he bought it new in september of 74.

Not sure, but i don't think the torsion bars would bolt on The 63 "ladder"frame.

Yep, the truck is a '61 going by the VIN number. And as markeb01 said, whether it has a hydraulic clutch or mechanical, will shed some light on what may be going on.

concur - pink slips can get all goobered up, VINs can't. I think she's a 61 also. But of course, PICTURES WOULD BE NICE .....!!!!

Re: 63 C10 with torsion bars?

Thinking it might be a 61 with a 63 hood and grill, cab mounts look unaltered but still need to investigate further ...
