Double Pump Clutch

For whatever reason I seem to need to double pump my clutch pedal when shifting gears. No other problem other than it being annoying. So the questions are.

1) what is the possible problem?
2) solution?
3) do I need to pull engine to solve?
4) can I just live with it indefinitely?

My guess would be that I would need to drop in a new clutch kit (lmc sells them), but again if that means pulling the engine and the problem is more annoying than bad then I can get a sense of time, priorities.

Re: Double Pump Clutch

The synchros in your transmission are likely worn. If that is the problem a new clutch will not fix your problem. The transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.
What trans is in it, the truck 4-speed?

Re: Double Pump Clutch

Yes, truck 4 speed (65 c20). Any other possibilities to check first?

Re: Double Pump Clutch

They are really common, if it was mine I would replace it with a used transmission.

are you double clutching or double pumping? what year is your truck? is it equipped with a hydraulic clutch or manual linkage.
I you are double pumping that will tell that you either have air or your fluid is low in the hydr. system
double clutching as already been mentioned is that you have a synchro problem or that your clutch has seen better days.
you do not have to pull the motor to replace the clutch; one drops the transmission to do that.

Re: Double Pump Clutch

65 c20 - so manual clutch I believe. And while I am on the topic, if I do replace, what's the best alternative for ease of replacement or change to a real 4 speed as opposed to the 3 + granny.

Re: Double Pump Clutch

If its not hydraulic and has a cable you should try adjusting it. There is a threaded adjuster on the linkage somewhere
