electric fan setups
You guys with electric fans. Did you use a direct fit setup like this or another setup?

i just got 2 from a HONDA ACCORD and made the brackets. they are 13". what you need to look for is that they will flush mount on the radiator and then line the edge that touches the radiator with say vacuum hose or something that will prevent it from rubbibg through, i used the vacuum hose. i just split it all the way down and put it on the lip that touches the radiator

I hope it's gold plated !!! I just have 1 from a chevy corsica i'm not shure how big it is but it keeps it cool even with the a/c on in summer in so. Fla. and i only paid 20 bux for it. |

i got 2 from 2 dogde carravans,fits perfect,these have the brackets built into them just drill 3 holes and there mounted

For $600 I had all the paint stripped of BADBOW down to the metal.
Here is my conversion page. Now that I have a house, I need to do some garage cleaning. :p BAD BOW may get the fans installed in May. |

What did you guys use for a temp relay to turm them on with?
I have a duel one off of a caravan but I havent installed them because I dont want them on all the time. |

well i havent put them on yet but i have checked the fit and you can take the fans off a 1990 grand prix they fit great fills up the whole space of the rad

Switching to electric is not that difficult. You need only pick the configuration you want. (ie 1- 16" fan, 2- 12" fans, etc) Wiring is fairly simple, I would recommend placing a relay in the system , especially if you have a/c. you can choose 2 ways to mount the fans, either by using thru-core rods or by fabricating some brackets to mount to the outer bracket of the radiator.
other than that, when wiring, double check to see that the fan is actually pulling air in and not blowing air out. when wiring the system, if positive/negative are reversed, this can happen, though some fans, will only work one way. also choose what temp switch to use. you can use a variable or static type. your choice.... good luck! Do a search on Electric fans...it will bring up lots of options. Personally I love my dual Haydens and the hayden temp sensor. Lifetime warranty from O reilly and was under 170 total! all new

Not on a truck, but this is the setup I have on my 69 Cutlass.
Aluminum radiator. This is the big BeCool radiator you can purchase through Jegs. Nice setup. On this setup I have a dual 11" electric fans. The fan that is closest to the upper radiator hose is my primary fan. This fan is setup with a 195* sensor mounted in the intake. That wire runs down to a relay I have mounted on the core support. That relay is active only when the key is on. My second fan is also controlled by a thermal sensor but this one is an adjustable one that has the probe in the radiator. I have this one setup at something like 225 or something like that. I don't really remember. The adjustable sensor is also a built in relay and this is mounted to the core as well. Powering them, I have a dual post battery. I ran a thick starter wire off the side post positive and that runs down and then branches into 3 different wires. 2 of these wires go straight to the relays. The other wire runs over to my MSD 6AL ignition box. This assures me that the products needing power are getting everything they can get rather then running through the rest of the cars wiring first. With this setup, my primary fan never kicks on unless I am idling for long periods of time. As long as the temps are around in the 70's. When the temps hit 90 here a while back, the primary fan kicked on more often, but still would run for about a minute or two and then shut off for about 5 minutes and then kick back on. The second fan has never had to come on yet. Only time that fan has ran is when I was first setting the system up and wanted to adjust that sender. Before I would switch to electric on my truck, I would want to make sure of a few things. 1) How big my alternator is. These fans do suck some energy especially if two are running. 2) I would make sure my radiator is up to par or I would upgrade to aluminum. In my case, I would setup the system the same way, but I would also set it up so that the fans are running all the time with the A/C on. I would probably also install a interior switch to overide the sending units so if I am towing something heavy or working the engine hard, I have the power to keep the fans on no matter what.
