am i crazy?

when i was in my early teens a friend of mine told me that the 73-87 body style had an option for an even shorter bed than 6ft. i think he said something bout a 5ft bed. there was an old truck that sat in a back yard that he claimed to be one of these trucks. did i fall for the joke as a youngster? are these trucks real?

Re: am i crazy?

they only made 6 foot bed and 8 foot beds but of course that wasn't the exact mesurments the only time they made a bed differently was wen a conversion company took 2 door long beds and converted them into a extended cab with a bit shorted bed

Re: am i crazy?

Yeah, yer crazy! Just kidding. I had a co-worker who took a 6-foot bed and cut it and the frame down to 4 feet in order to install a custom camper shell he built. Oddly enough, it looked pretty sharp. He did that to a 74 square.

What he may have seen was a Blazer with the half cab conversion. There was an aftermarket company that made a fiberglass half cab to convert full top Blazers to pick ups. That might explain what he thought was a super short wheel base truck.

Re: am i crazy?

Guys, short beds are 6.5 feet, not just 6 feet.

Re: am i crazy?

thanks for the info everyone. i love seeing those ads for companies that did conversions like that to trucks , airport limos are awesome . my buddy thats into the 55-59 body style says a company made a push me pull me truck (had two front ends) that was used by railroads . ive never seen any pictures but hes very knowledgeable in the 55-59 trucks.
