We got hammered the other day with thunderstorms. After the rain stopped I was going to Autozone for something or the other and noticed that I had about 8 " of water in the front part of the bed of my truck. I noticed that these trucks(or at least mine) , don't have any drain holes in the front part of the bed like my '89 Silverado did. Have any of ya'll drilled a hole in the front corners of the bed to allow water to drain out?

My 70' has drain holes that were in it.

When I tore out the rotten wood from my short stepside and welded in a metal bed floor from a newer box, I made sure to leave the drain holes. Even when I got it rhino lined, I had them keep the drain holes open. It's one of the areas you always see rusted out on fleetsides. I think it's a good idea. Be sure to keep your door drain holes open too. good luck, Scott

My 71 and 68 beds both have drain holes.
They are actually not in the bed floor but are in the panel closest to the cab.
They are in the corners of the bed at the bottom close to the sides.
In fact they are not really round holes but are like a quarter inch size rounded on the top and flat towards the bottom the bottom.
I have seen the replacement panels for the beds and the ones I have seen do come with these already there.

mine is the same as hutches the only problem for me though is keeping them unclogged as my parking spot is under a tree

i have been looking at the thick plastic sheeting i have and then looking at the truck bed.... hum... redneck portable swimming pool.. just might do that soon

I have holes drilled but I did them small so sometimes they get clogged up. But it is a good way to prevent rust.

Mike,
The bed is off of the truck.
The picture was taken looking from between the cab and bed on the outside towards the back on the passenger side.
Here is one from the inside the bed looking forward towards the drivers side.
The hole is sort of hard to see due to the colors.

I got drain holes but they arent exactly stock and they werent drilled. Its not a little drain hole either its about 1 inch across and in the middle of the bed.

my 72 longbed has em in the bed. round holes. like 4 or 5 near the front. 2 or 3 closest to the front bed panel in the metal... a small and a big hole on either side also.

thanks again. I went out and looked and someone had put what looked like tub and tile caulk in those holes sometime ago. I'm not sure WHY though.

My '67 fleetside has them...they are tough to find...more of a slot on the front outer edge of the box near the cab. Like Hutch has shown in his pic. I used a stainless steel dental tool to clean them out. I just drilled 1" holes in the stepside wood floor...it was about shot anyway! Solarus...check again with that dental pick and you will find them.

PO punched 6 holes in the front of my bed with a hammer and chisel, then twisted the chisel sideways to enlarge them. No, they are not all the same size or evenly spaced, but I will admit the bed drains rather nicely.

drilled 2 holes 1/2 diameter in front of bed about 8" from corners....works Ok...but no matter what size holes.. if there is only a couple of treeleaves floating around ; they will find their way to cover the drain holes!!!!!!!!!!!

My 69 C10 has a nice set of drain holes. There about 4" long by about 2.5" tall. They are the result of rust. But hey, at least my bed dont hold water.

Need a LWB for it though.
