smog

Hey swapers
I was wondering for any one of you in california who are swaping an ls into you pick up, what are you guys doing about smog laws. I just bought an 86 k10 and I'd like to swap in an ls but im planing to move back home to cali. I looked at the law and it said any thing 76 and newer needed to be smogged.

Re: smog

You'll have to keep the LS basically stock, sans tune. means you need to run stock style cats, and keep it quiet. Anything like EGR, Smog pumps, etc from the donor truck must be in place and functioning. Keep manifolds on it, wont pass a visual test with headers (normally)

Re: smog

I have a 1971 C10 no smog is needed. They would never have a reason to inspect the truck right?
I thought I basically could run whatever I wanted?

Re: smog

Vandals your truck is a 71, and like he mentioned in his post, anything pre-76 has no emissions tests in cali. You can run whatever you want for the most part.

His situation is different because an 86 will have to pass the CARB smog bull****.

Re: smog

The way I understand it is the body year dictates the smog equipment not the year of the engine.
I could be wrong though.
