Re: Interior Help

I know for certain that won't work. These trucks were made for people 5'9" and under so how bout' you send it over here so my vertically challenged self can drive it?
Just kidding, man that thing is CLEAN! I really have no idea about the column, but do know that alot of guys use the van tilt columns with little modification. I do know that even at 5'9", I would really like a tilt setup. I can only imagine being 6'2" and being crammed behind that wheel.

A factory wheel will be bigger and stick out further.

Re: Interior Help

I have been looking at a IDIDIT steering colomn but it doesn't mention that it bolts to the factory steering wheel. I just want a factory wheel with the horn ring, what years will match original? I know 65 and 66 are different but i do not know the difference. I will settle for a 65 or so as there may not be much difference.

Re: Interior Help

Bowtie bits LLC has refurbished guage clusters (but not cheap) in stock, or find a used unit and refurbish it yourself. You will have to do some wire conversion to switch from factory warning lights to guages. The tachs can be found aftermarket through most venders...the original EB-8 suntachs are harder to come by. I did my own guages and replaced all the harness's, but have the list of what needs swapped to keep the existing harness.

Re: Interior Help

To convert from warning lights to guages: parts required - Guage cluster, under-dash wiring harness, instrument panel wiring harness, engine harness, alternator harness, temp sending unit, plumbing for oil pressure guage. Also note that the L6 and V8 engine harness's are different. The oil pressure guage is mechanical so no wiring is required there. The temp guage wiring harness has only one wire to the sending unit, the warning light cluster has two. The alternative is to modify your existing harness. It involves adding a few extra wires and unhooking some others. The oil sending wire and one of the temp sender wires are no longer needed. The ammeter also has to be wired. The fuel guage is the same on either cluster as is the speedometer. The tach is easy to wire...the ground is through the metal dash and the power wire plugs into the fuse panel, the sensor wire is hooked to the negative side of the coil. I found it easier to just replace the wiring, but was more costly....pretty much just plug and play though.
