Summit Racing paint good value?
So, I'm not an expert paint and body guy, my efforts don't match the skills displayed on this forum. I still want to paint my own truck, just like doing everything myself.
I painted my last truck, a 1968 C10 stepside in 1993 when I was much younger, and frankly I don't remember much about the paint I used, it turned out ok. I had to sell it to pay off debts in 1996, so now i have a 67 stepside that I am replacing it with. The question is, what the best paint for someone like me who doesn't have much experience to use? i was thinking of Summit paint because their store is close by, but really I'm looking for reasonably priced paint that is easy to mix and spray. Any suggestions or feedback? Thanks. |

Re: Summit Racing paint good value?
I use their epoxy primer, they have House Of Kolor, and I wish that they lived in my neighborhood.
Paint is extremely expensive now, thanks to the EPA. |

Haven't used it, but Souther Poly (SPI) gets rave reviews. I'd check them out.

Re: Summit Racing paint good value?
I haven't tried the Summit paint yet.
I have had very good results with Nason single stage urethane enamel. You can buy it at most Oreilly stores. DETAILS If you are using a common color like black or gm white they sell factory packs comes with paint, reducer and hardener. Nason is a Dupont company. The paint is pretty cheap but shines great and is pretty durable. You can color sand and buff if you want/need to also. Just don't try to shoot it like acrylic enamel or lacquer you'll end up with runs everywhere. It can be difficult to keep from getting runs, but once you get the hang it's good stuff. Good luck! |

Thanks. The thing about the other brands I just thought of is I can get more colors. Summit just offers a certain amount, no custom colors either in their single stage paint.

Re: Summit Racing paint good value?
I buy paint from paint companies/suppliers. People who are specialized and knowledgeable in it. They can help me understand the chemistry involved so I can make an educated purchase. I see no advantage in buying from a "we sell everything, but only a limited line" superstore.

Re: Summit Racing paint good value?
We would say buy your paint from your local auto parts stores. Nason (Dupont) and Omni (PPG) are both really good products and priced competetively. If you have questions or concerns, your local guy can help, otherwise, you are calling someone you will probably never see or hear from again for help.
