Core Support / Cab mount questions

I have a 69 SWB step side. I am putting a 68 clip on it.

I have heard the front cab mounts and the front core support mounts are different for the two years. (67-68 vs. 69-72) My question is do I still need to use 69+ cab and core support mounts on my 68 clip setup? I just want to make sure everything lines up correctly. .. Ex. Fender to door, and hood alignment.

The frame is a 69, .. I have heard the front mounting points are lower on the 69 frame horns (?) I actually have both 68 and 69 style core support mounts, both new .. which do I use?

I have 69 style front cab mounts now .. do I need to change to 68 style? Thanks.

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

You need to use 69-72 Rad. mounts. The difference is in the frame mounted rad. support brackets. On a 67-68 frames these brackets are flush with the top of frame on 69-72 frames these brackets are below the frame top and require a thicker mount. So if its a 67-68 ALWAYS use 67-68 radiator support mounts even if you put a 69-72 front clip on it, if its a 69-72 frame always use 69-72 mounts even when using a 67-68 front clip.

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

I appreciate it GMCPaul -

On the front cab mounts are the 67-68 different than 69+ ? With my 69 w/68 clip do I use 67-68 type or 69+ (thinking they're different?). Thanks

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

ALL 67-72 1/2ton 2wd cab mounts are the same, only the core support mounts differ on the 2wd 1/2ton.
All 67-72 3/4ton&1ton 2wd, 1/2ton up 4X4 cab mounts are the same.

Just a word of caution to 69 owners. My 69 C/20 has the core support brackets flush with the top of the frame and had the 67-68 style core support mounts. It was produced in early Dec. 1968. Either the 3/4 tons did not make the change or like most GM changes it actually occurred during the model year. So, I assume the thing to do is check the bracket location to determine the type of mount to use. Is that correct GMCPaul?

Here's a picture of my bracket locations.

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

I'll have to check mine. My truck is a 69 frame so it's possible the mounts might be in the 68 position. .. But, I have both style mounts (both sets are new) so I will just use the one I need and sell the other.

thanks for your help.

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

I think you should ask GMCPaul to look at your picture and render a verdict based on the position of your brackets. Perhaps PM him and ask that he look at this thread again? I reread what he said in post #4. I THINK he's saying that only the 1/2 ton 2WDs changed in 69 and that the 3/4 tons (such as mine), 1 tons and 4X4s never changed. I assume that means the 3/4 ton, 1 tons and all 4X4s from 67-72 should use the 67/68 style mounts, and only the 69-72 1/2 tons take the newer style. It would be great if some 1/2 ton owners could post some pics of their core support brackets.

Re: Core Support / Cab mount questions

Looks like the 67-68 frame mounts are in fact different.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=505169

The holes in the front rad mounts are smaller in this frame than on mine. Quoted from GMCPaul above "...if its a 69-72 frame always use 69-72 mounts even when using a 67-68 front clip."

I think I need the 69+ rad support mounts. The 67-68 style are smaller in diameter as I recall. Makes sense..
