Picked up a '65 Panel
So I have been looking around for a Suburban or Pane from '64-'72 for a while. Not really serious unless the right deal came up. Then a couple weeks ago I sold our '00 Jeep Cherokee so I had funds to get more serious. Been looking for the last couple weeks. Went to check out a few and was disappointed. Rust buckets and bondo queens. I happened across this '65 Panel and checked it out yesterday. It has a minor dent in the lower rear drivers corner due to the lug nuts coming off and allowing the wheel to dismount from the drum. Outside of that, it truly has almost zero rust and is a good 3 footer paint job. Not perfect but the nicest I have had in an old truck.
I need to completely do the suspension as it still wears drums and most of the original parts. Add power steering and disc brakes, etc., etc. It currently has 22" wheels which are definitely going. Not sure what I am going to end up with but need to kind of decide so I know if I am going 5 lug or 6. Here are a few teasers that I got just as I got home and needed to get the trailer back. It was dark after that. Likely this weekend I will get some more. I am stoked with this.

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
Nope, only pics I have at the moment.
Not sure on wheel size and overall stance. I might do airbags on this project as I have wanted to do that on one for a while. Who knows?

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
the mini truck rims need to hit CL, but the truck itself is wicked.

That's where they will be headed. Luckily the PO gave me the slot mag wheels and tires so I can at least swap these off. As it is, the rears are hitting the wheel wells.

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
It needs some engine tuning (think the timing is off), some little bits (rear door handle, door seals, interior, etc.) and a redo of the suspension.
In reality, a tune and putting the other wheels on and I likely could be driving it. That's my weekend plan but they are saying it's going to be raining all weekend.

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
Okay, got the wheels swapped off and some engine and inside pics. Did a little tune on the engine and it's running better but based on what is happening with the timing mark, I think the outer ring on the balancer has slipped. As I get more into it, I keep finding hokey stuff done. Need to sort out the under dash wiring.
Also while swapping wheels, of which had a mixed set of lug nuts, some mag style and some acorn style <slaps forehead>, it looks that the front coils were cut really short and the rear coils were heated. Why the heck people just can't spend the couple hundred dollars on a proper set of springs is beyond me... oh well. Here's some pics. 22" wheels, now on the ground Old slot mags

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
Looks tough with the slotted mags! Maybe a size or two smaller tire in the front would look killer also! Just a thought, but a whole lot classier with slots!

Re: Picked up a '65 Panel
Nice horn!!
Check the mounting on those seats, with the seat belts in them you want to make sure the floor will hold the seat in an accident. You don't want the bolts pulling through the floor and sending you into the steering wheel or worse.
