Re: Pipes exit?

Yes, on my 76 stepside, I have the exhaust before the rear tire. Why do you ask?

Re: Pipes exit?

mine dump under the bed but If I decide to change it they will dump just before the front tire like you mention.... way better than the back in my opinion

Re: Pipes exit?

I have it that way on both of my trucks however the 69 stepside I have now has a 454 and it's LOUD! I'm going to be running the pipes back further soon to save my sanity! (getting older I guess)

My other truck just has a very tame small block and I can barely hear the exhaust inside the truck.

My point, it really depends on the engine and exhaust system / and size as to what it's going to sound like. Could be over powering, quiet or anything in between.

Re: Pipes exit?

Here is a pic of my exhaust. (pic taken by PO)
Dual pipes with Xover and resonator tips only. No mufflers (YET)

Soon my freshly overhauled and modified 396BB will make these pipes sing!

Re: Pipes exit?

I had them exit out in front of the wheels on the 71 for a long time but the mufflers were burned out glass packs that were more like straight pipes and it got tiresome. It's cool for while around town but it gets tiresome when you drive at highway speeds for miles on end and put 50 miles a day going to work and back on the truck at highway speeds. I am older at 66 so it's getting to where exhaust noise is more annoying than fun on long road trips.

But all things are subject to change and it isn't hard to have the piped cut off just before where they turn out and have tail pipes put on the truck to get the noise further back.

This isn't in front of the wheels but I thought it was kind of cool.
