Factory Air Cleaner Housing Differences?
Are there any differences in stock air cleaner housings for small block V8 engines in our trucks from 67-72? I'm particularly interested in a 72 350...thanks for any input

Re: Factory Air Cleaner Housing Differences?
If I remember correctly, Other than 2bbl or 4bbl, 67's are pretty much by themselves, (different carb) 68's (federal) did not have the "thermactor" flap and the snout was different. 69-72's are the same..

Re: Factory Air Cleaner Housing Differences?
I'm pretty sure the the 3/4 and 1/2 ton trucks used different housings for at least some of those years due to more stringent emissions requirements for the lighter duty 1/2 tons. All my California built and sold 69 3/4 ton has for emissions is a PCV valve and valve cover to carb breather hose.

Re: Factory Air Cleaner Housing Differences?
At my local O'Rileys Auto Parts there is a unique part number for the 72 K5 350 air filter. It's a little taller than the other filter that is listed for the C/K 10-30's. I have a factory air cleaner assembly supposedly off a 72 C20 350 and the taller filter listed for K5 will not allow the lid to seal on the base.

Re: Factory Air Cleaner Housing Differences?
I purchased a stock 4bbl air cleaner off the parts board here about a year before I built my 383. I was in collect parts mode. I figured they were all the same so I didn't ask if it was off a 4x4 or not. When I finally got around to putting that stock air cleaner on my installed engine, it hit the firewall so I had to use something else.
Other than my experience I have no proof that there are differences. Not too many days ago "too much stuff" posted a picture of three different sizes of carb spacers. Perhaps 4x4s need the shorter spacer to clear the firewall for the farther back stock SBC location. It wouldn't have take a much shorter spacer for my stock air cleaner to clear.
