protecto plate/engine number help!!!!

just got a new project a few weeks ago. a 72 custom 20 4x4 used to belong to a fire department somewhere. someone had saved the protecto plate and build sheet and put it in the glove box. the number stamped on the pass side front of the engine says V0216TRK and the engine number on the protecto plate says V0218TRK. i cant figure out how these numbers are only 2 digits off? what are the odds of it being stamped wrong from the factory? and before anyone asks...yes its clearly a "6" on the block and an "8" on the protecto plate i know how 6's 8's and 3's can sometimes look like one or the other if its not a good stamp.

what do you think?

i cant bring myself to make it a short bed and a mud truck if its an original matching #'s truck with the build sheet and protecto plate! maybe someone on here should buy it and save it lol

thanks for any help!!!
