Chalk mark identification??
I've seen these before, but have never figured out what they mean. These are on a '72 lwb Custom Deluxe (white/ochre). Numbers 298 marked on the firewall, radiator support and front cross member. The numbers 298 are no where on the VIN. Any ideas?

Re: Chalk mark identification??
It must have had to be set off the line to wait for something, since they all didn't get such markings.I knew of trucks on order, had a delivery date, then pushed back, delivery date, pushed back a few times before actually delivery because of odd combinations of options and/or short on supply of a part.

Re: Chalk mark identification??
. . . .
. . . also known as the "sequence or job number". Mine was 635 and the "B" in the upper right corner is for the Baltimore MD plant. These grease pencil marks were also found on the inside of my right fender telling the assembly line workers that my truck was going to have Air Conditioning. . . . .

Re: Chalk mark identification??
It seems like alot of baltimore trucks got marked all over. My 71 is an atlanta truck and had some, but the 68 and both the 72 are baltimore trucks and they are marked all over. The 70 doesnt really have anything on it.
