Just curious what upgrades you made to your 700r to hold up to your stock/built big blocks. I am looking at monster transmissions monster in a box rebuild kit for my mildly built 454 and the stock 454 in my ccd and thought I'd check in here to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Google Monster Transmissions before making your final decision. Seems I've read of some issues w/their quality lately on this wonderful tool (the net).

For a top of the line trans manufacturer, Phoenix Transmissions out of Weatherford Tx builds some nice stuff & are popular w/the aftermarket crowd needing 700's to live behind power/torque.

Also might look at Bowtie Overdrives. They have a good rep for built 700R4's. Monster transmissions has some horrible reviews for products and customer service floating around the web.

I know a guy who went through two 700r4s from Bowtie but he autocrosses and road races.

I have a 454/700r4 in my Laguna. It's been in for about 7000 miles, down the track 5-6 times. It's a stock rebuild 93 vette trans, the 454 is fresh with a performer cam and intake. No explosions, yet. Make sure you know where you're pointed when it shifts into 2nd. Good luck, Ron

What about a 4l80e? It will hold up without being built. And you won't have $1000 into parts alone....

I have one that can handle a 454. Cost $2100+!! Worth every dime to me. It takes all the abuse I can put on with a ZZ4.

Only if you're controlling it manually from what I researched. The TCU's to operate the trans 'automatically' started @ $600 plus. I looked into putting one behind my 461 in the dually & for all the incidentals, it was over 1K (the trans was paid for already).

the aftermarket has come a long ways in improve'n the 700R4, for an average torque engine like most really have , 700R4 is the most bang for your buck. in stock form they dont hold up well to abuse and have got'n a bad rap because of that.
