crossmember bolt size?

Does the crossmember for a 76 c10 use the the same size bolts for the 7 holes in the picture? Im pretty sure it does, its mainly the bolts that go in the threaded part im having trouble getting them in there. I think its just because its rusty but wanted to make sure.

Re: crossmember bolt size?

I'm fairly sure they're the same. I know when I've swapped them I never completely segregated the bolts specific to each x-member. I just tossed them in an old show box that contains my used 'front suspension/chassis' hardware & pull some out when I needed them.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: crossmember bolt size?

I'm thinking I just need to clean the threads out and it will be fine.

Re: crossmember bolt size?

Keep all of the other crossmember bolts loose to allow a little movement to get the bolts started. Spray a little WD-40 on the threads. Before you run everything down, do a couple of cross-measures to ensure that you have it nice and square in the chassis, then run the bolts down and recheck. The factory had a tolerance that was pretty liberal, and you can better it if you take your time. This step might help you a little bit when it comes time to align the truck because thrust angle is usually the first thing they check. This will tell you if the front and real suspensions are square and parallel to each other.

Ever see a car in the oncoming lane look like the back end is coming around when it's driving straight? That's a severe case, but it's an example.
