The top slide lever in my control panel is broken. I have searched for repair/replacement threads without any luck. Can anyone help with this?

Having been through this I must say that is a great write up.
Those 40 year old pot metal tabs you need to bend and re-use are the biggest issue. Take your time there.

One thing I'd like to add is the fan switch. I see in the write up it was replaced. When I went junk yarding for an AC controller EVERY one I saw had a melted switch connector and/or a wrecked switch.

Look your switch and switch connector over real good. If there is any sign of melting or a speed or two doesn't work I would order a new switch and connector from LMC or similar then click over to NAPA and order about a half a dozen of part number 725147. This is the wire terminal that clips into an unmelted switch connector.

With these parts you can repair all your fan speed wires and button it all back up so it operates just like the day it was delivered.

For what its worth, I stock these wire terminals and the "male" connector (NAPA part number 725145) in my electrical box as these are used in most of the connections on this vintage of GM vehicle.

Will do. I have not closely inspected the fan switch yet, the first thing I need to do is locate a replacement lever, take the thing apart, and get it working mechanically again. The entire heat/ac system on this truck was removed (not by me) and put in a box, so it will be a challenge to make it all work again.

Yes! Its only the cast portion of my top lever broken, everything ese is good. Let me know when you find it, and I will cover the mail.

Get one of the repair kits from a vendor.They're fairly cheap and solve the pot metal lever problem.They use steel llevers.Remove and clean/lube the cables since they are the biggest cause of the problem.

Thanks, I was wondering what the replacements were made of. The original seems to be a steel piece riveted to a cast aluminum piece, and the cast broke. I would think they would never break anyway if the cables and doors were lubed and too much effort was not used on the controls.

That looked like why my upper lever broke, the cable was binding and the lever had to be forced. If everything works smoothly, the pot metal will be OK. Obviously the steel ones are more stout and you can go that route if you choose.
