degree wheel kit....
im arguing with myself on whether or not to buy a degree wheel kit.... comp makes an ls specific kit with "everything you need" for a gm gen3 motor. the kit averages about $190 from different vendors. my only other option (since i dont know anybody with one) is having a guy come over and do it, or take it to the shop to be done......
what ya'll think i should do? |

Re: degree wheel kit....
are you running a custom grind cam, that you need to verify built in advance?
I've never bothered doing it, but any cam I've bought has been a "shelf" grind. I've heard some say its essential, others say it doesn't matter at all. edit; if you changed reluctor wheels or something I can see why this would be essential. ls1tech is full of 100 threads full of b.s. on the topic, IMO if you can do it, you're probably better off than those of us that didn't bother.

Re: degree wheel kit....
haha yeah, no i do have a custom grind for my turbo setup so i DO NEED TO degree the cam for sure. its not a matter of whether or not i do it, but whether its worth getting the kit as opposed to getting it done for me.
and yeah ive been through the ls1tech articles about degreeing the cam and its HILARIOUS the amount of good and bad information out there. the bad information just gets SHAT on by the guys who know better. haha. |

Re: degree wheel kit....
Honestly after looking at the kits, I think you can do better, cheaper.
If you get the wheel itself, the rest of the "kit" it pretty much standard stuff as far as the gauge etc. You can probably peice something together from harbor freight for less. If its something your only going to use for this motor, it might not be worth spending the big coin for the specific kit. I guess it comes down to how much the dude is going to charge you to do it. If he only wants like $40-50 its probably just easier to let him do it for you.
