Getting stubborn rear shackle off...Help
So I'm trying to take my leaf springs off in the rear with out taking the bed off for now. The upper bolt in the end of the leaf spring can't come out due to the frame rails are in the way. The lower shackle bolt where it connects to the shackle hanger to the frame is the bolt I have to take out then i can lift the leaf springs out with the shackle still attached.
The lower shackle bolt is seized in there. What have others done to get this bolt out of there? Tips would be handy! |

You're gonna need heat, abrasion, leverage and cussing to get that apart.

Could you fit a sawz-all blade in there?

That's what I did to my CC truck, but I had the bed off. Definitely some cussing will be necessary

Re: Getting stubborn rear shackle off...Help
I use Kroil to penetrate the rust and use an impact hammer to drive the bolts out. I use this stuff at work and it is great. If that doesn't work I usually get out the old torch as suggested before. But Kroil is the best penetrating oil I've ever used. http://www.kanolabs.com/

Re: Getting stubborn rear shackle off...Help
On one of mine I used a plasma cutter to cut the back of the shackle off. I then could get to the gooey center.
