Hoping someone can give me an idea about what I'm about to get into.

I'm getting a deal on a 73-87 crossmember (going to disc brakes on my 64) but I got to pull it.

I'm not concerned with actually pulling it, but more about the weight since I've never done this before. Once i get it out, will I be able to lift this into the back of my truck by myself? I'm really limited to doing all this by myself, but I don't want to find out I've got 500lbs of steel to lift. Don't know if he has a hoist to help or not.

If you seperate the control arms, spindles, and brakes from the crossmember assembly you will be able to lift it into a truck.

Without arms or anything on it you are looking at less than 100 pounds

ehh..I'm pulling it all- arms spindles, linkage, etc..., and don't know if I'll be able to seperate there. Looks like I'll be bribing someone with beer to come help me.

Thanks for the help guys. At least I have an idea now of what I'm looking at.

If it has wheels on it, I did mine by myself. Just leave the center link of the steering connected. I just dropped it, rolled it out from under, then hoisted into the truck one side at a time.

I'm not a huge guy and was able to muscle it.

I don't need to look pretty while I get it in there, I just need it to end up in the bed of my truck.

That's gonna be a heavy lift, I would try and round up a helper.

When I did mine, the PO took off the steering and sold it to someone else. So I had to wrangle it without the centerlink. Way harder than it should have been.

Worst part is I'm not even going to use it now.

An engine hoist or maybe ramps might make it go a bit easier.

Awesome help and suggestions guys, I think I'll have it covered. I really just had no idea if it was 10lbs or 1000lbs, so I didn't know what to expect.

You won't be able to toss it over your shoulder, that's for sure! I pick it up one side at a time. A 6 pack of beer would be worth it as a bribe to save your back, though.
