1974 GMC 3/4 ton lowering questions,

Hello I was wondering if a 3/4 ton 2wd truck can be lowered. I was looking at buying one this weekend but wanted to know this before I purchase it. Thanks everyone for the help I really appreciate it.

Re: 1974 GMC 3/4 ton lowering questions,

Yes the can. All the suspension components are close to the same as 1/2 ton. The lower control arms have larger ball joints but even the aftermarket support them.

Re: 1974 GMC 3/4 ton lowering questions,

While you can lower a 3/4 ton with spindles and hanger kit you may want to consider switching to a 1/2 ton suspension ...much better selection of wheels.

Just swap out your rear axle and springs....lower control arms and springs and upper ball joints for 1/2 ton parts...use regular 1/2 ton drop spindles

There is no need for that since the aftermarket support for 8 lug 4x4's is so great. You can get rims into the 24" range with the correct backspacing very easily. I have a set of 8 lug 20's in my garage with 5" of back spacing, perfect for a lowered 3/4 ton truck. These rims can usually be bought cheap used because guys don't want to shell out the cash to replace there off road tire once they are bald.

Re: 1974 GMC 3/4 ton lowering questions,

Its totally possible and these guys on here will help a ton along the way. Here is a link to a thread I started asking a TON of questions with answers about lowering 1 tons and 3/4 tons. Keep it a 3/4 ton, not as many lowered ones out there like the half tons, its just another way to be unique.

Link to lowering a 1 ton and 3/4 ton thread.

A lot better info as you go, and different dropping ideas...

Re: 1974 GMC 3/4 ton lowering questions,

lowering a 3/4t takes the same parts as the 1t

thats your cheepest and easiest way to lower a 3/4 ton

Ive done it dont swap to a 1/2t if you use a 1t spendel all you need to swap is calipers to 1ton
