67 GMC 4spd Header ?'s

have a 67 gmc 1/2 ton 2wd, 327 cu inch, 4 spd man on floor, went to put on my new headers and they are nowhere close to fitting, clutch linkage is in the way, not much room between front and rear motor mounts or frame to block for that matter, found some hedman 69092's that are supposed to fit better than what i bought, any suggestions, anyone run into this themselves?

Re: 67 GMC 4spd Header ?'s

Thats a common problem with a 4 spd manual and headers, the header pipe from cyl #7 is in the way of the clutch linkage. I WAS going to run a muncie M20 but have since changed to a 4L60E but I did a bit of research and I found that some will move the Z bar bracket back on the frame and shorten the linkage rod. another guy claimed to use 1st gen camaro headers without any mods. most say that a 67 frame requires a little trimming of the frame to clear the headers since the horizontal flanges are a little longer than later years. On my stock 283 3spd the clutch linkage was resting against the #7 cyl header pipe and one of the passenger side header pipes rubbed a hole in itself on the passenger side against the frame rail. never got a clear answer on a header manufacturer part num that would fit a 4spd.

Re: 67 GMC 4spd Header ?'s

We put headers on a '67 with SBC and 4spd with no problems. I'm not sure what the brand is. They're the cheap ones that have been around for years. The kind with the head flange that reduces in width between the ports. What I learned you have to watch for is the #7 pipe has to angle ever so slightly forward and you'll clear the linkage just fine.If that pipe is vertical you'd just need to move the frame mount for the z-bar back a little.
