Re: Older Tools Collections?

Is the drive-end on the ratchet rectangular rather than square
(or is it just the photo making it look that way)?

Neat set!

Must just be the picture and thanks there in really good condition. Figured its pretty rare to find a set of sockets actually complete. Everyone knows how those tend to disappear.

I think I have that same remote started switch, except the silver ring thing has fallen off over the years.

Re: Older Tools Collections?

Some of my dad's old plumbing tools. Seems like he was one of the last guys to quit using lead & oakum. I remember my job was tending the lead pot when I was just 4 or 5 years old.

Re: Older Tools Collections?

I had a couple plumbers working for me that still used lead if needed. We had the little boiler pot and big iron spoon set etc. I always figured it would come in handy if I found myself needing lead ball ammo for anything.

Re: Older Tools Collections?

Old tools? Yes, I have a lot of tools handed down from my grandfather, to my father, to me. Mostly Plomb. Use them whenever I can because they are better then anything made in the past few decades.

Here's a small sample:

Re: Older Tools Collections?

Not that I'm any expert, but I've never heard of Plomb tools. Where they sold in auto parts or department stores or off a truck like Snap-On?

Re: Older Tools Collections?

Plomb = made in Los Angeles from 1907 to 1948, then name changed to Proto. I am from the Seattle area originally. Don't see much Plomb stuff here on the east coast. Very good tools. The ratchets are better than any high end stuff like Snap On that I've owned.

More Plomb info here if you like: http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artif...y.html#history
