Home made bed dolly...

Getting ready to pull my bed off and do wanted something i could set it on and maybe move it around on as well. Has anyone made one of these cheap? If so could I get some dimensions on length and width. I have lots of scrap wood, so I may as well put it to use...

Re: Home made bed dolly...

Yes - see my build thread (link in signature); I made one out of scrap 4x4s, by aligning the vertical posts with the 4 outermost bed bolt holes. Attached the bed to the stand with lag bolts.

My main motivation was to simply keep the box up off the ground, but ended up being a nice height while doing the body work and also helped during transportation to and from the paint shop.

(They guys in the paint shop seemed to appreciate it, too).

There is something that seems "so right" about using the truck to help in this process:

Re: Home made bed dolly...

I built something very similar to what Keith did (I don't have measurements off hand, but I can go take some later tonight):

Before I put the bed on it, I added some 2x4's across the opening on the top, so I could slide the bed around easier, which you can see here.

Mine was made to hold the cab & bed for my 70, but it will work for yours. Harbor freight castors and 2x4s

After I finished the cab I cut it down for rolling the bed around.

Here is the dimensions of mine started 24" high for cab work and went to 12" later
