Wanna be Pro Street.
Ive been taking in the information from this site for several years and now time has come for me to ask for help. I have a 68 short bed that Im wanting to do a back half on. WHERE DO I START, I want the truck to set low, the tires I have are MT 33X22X20 with 20X15 Billett Specialties wheels. I also have the Autoweld Pro Street 4 link. Do I set the truck level if so how high off the ground or does it matter, as long as its level???? I plan on building the rear clip out of 2X4 tube. How do I know how wide the rear clip should be from out side of rail to out side of rail? If any of yall have pictures or some good advice I would appreciate it. I will try to get some pictures of the wheels / 4link posted and the truck.

Re: Wanna be Pro Street.
You need to set it at ride height. Thats for you to decide what height and rake you want to build in. I know you already have the tires and wheels, but have you considered a contemporary version of the pro street look? Rather than the dated look of running M/T's the new trend of running 24's out back really rocks.

Re: Wanna be Pro Street.
Come on guy's with all the great fabrication that Ive seen on this site and no one can help me out.
N2TRUX, I hear what you're saying about 24's on the rear, they look awsome, Im not real concerned about the DATED look, Ive neve been in style so why should I worry about it this late in life. Actually with me having almost 5 grand in just the rear wheels and tires, I dont want to think what my wife would say when I tell her that I need to buy something different, it would'nt be a good conversation. Im just trying to make a 40 year old dream come true. Thanks, |

Re: Wanna be Pro Street.
Cardboard and tape measures will be your best friend. For a first build at this, you need to gather all the info. Set the truck at the ride hieght you want to achieve. Cut a cardboard rectangle,(make 2) the hieght and overall width of the tire, appx 33 x 22, check with MT to get the mounted up spec. Pull the floor and iner tubbs out. Set the cardboard template in place at the centerline, allow 1 to 1 1/4" of tire clearance at the top, you may have to trim the inner bedside. With them both in place, measure betwwen them, this should be the space between the two inner sidewalls. Subtract 2", thats your frame O.D. . Fab the rails so that the 4-bar is under the rail, to keep the bar stance as wide as possible.
