dual shocks or air bags

I recently added on to the roof rack on my Burb. The extra weight causes it to bounce pretty bad...its a side to side bounce which makes freeway driving kinda scary. I'm running a single shock on each corner....rancho 9125's if I remember right. The Burb has the brackets for dual shocks on each side up front, and I have the kit to set up dual shocks for the back. My question is would dual shocks all around fix my problem or would air bags be better? Or should I do both? I do use it for towing. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: dual shocks or air bags

Suburbans have the shocks mounted a little more in-board compared to the trucks so that adds a little more body roll especially with a lift or higher center of gravity as you seem to be having .
You could add a shock and mount farther outward toward the tire or the airbags would be a better choice in my opinion .
I'm also doing the airbags on lifted suburban for load and roll .

Re: dual shocks or air bags

I think I'm going to do both...kinda. The front end bounces pretty good too so I'm going to put an additional pair of shocks on the front (using the factory brackets) and I'm going to air bag the back and see how that goes. Thanks!

Re: dual shocks or air bags

My 88 Burb has the dual shocks and it's usually loaded down with a good amount of tools and people most of the time and doesn't have much problem at all. However, it is also stock height with stock size tires, but none-the-less it does pretty well with just the dual shocks.

Cool. Looking back on how the truck handles on the freeway, I'm going to do both the quad shocks up front and install helper bags on the back. A few months ago I had to tow an empty car hauler on I5 and there was a stretch where the seams in the concrete slabs got the whole truck/trailer bucking like a bronco....don't want to imagine how it would have been if the trailer was loaded. I slowed down before things got out of control and afterwards I had no one around me at all. Just before that stretch of highway I had someone tailgating me, afterwards they gave me A LOT of room.
