I know several guys from other lists who just wash them up in the sink, let them dry, and then spray them with some WD-40.
Don't know if that's right or not, but that's what they do.

During race season we soaked them in a 5 gallon bucket (filled with water and carwash soap) then let them dry and coat with WD-40. Seemed to work good... there was plenty of dirt in the bottom of the bucket each time lol.

the k&n oil is cheap. i'd stick with it. why risk it dirt getting in? course i've heard the wd-40 thing as well. just goes to prove you only need 5 things to fix or service any vehicle: wd-40, duct tape, silicon, rivets and zip ties!

I'd just use the K&N oil. It isn't very expensive. Probably costs the same, if not less than if you bought WD-40.... that stuff is like 3.50 a can at Pamida... and you can get the whole K&N Cleaning kit for like 9 bucks at parts stores.

You forgot band-aids and aspirine.
