Finally got the box... now what?

I've got a problem here! I got a new box for my pickup for a STEAL!! Almost mint, little rust, needs a new floor for 100 bucks. The only problem is I have to take the frame and axel with me! Here's the story, hope you all will give me some hints!

It's a K series frame with leafs (duh) and a complete rear axle. It does roll fine. The frame was cut off in the middle of the cab.

Should I just bolt on a coupler and drag it the 200 miles back home across the interstate? (gulp)

Flip the thing over and strap it to my current box, leaving the frame intact and putting the axle in the box? This would leave frame sticking out about even with my cowl. (might look funny!)

Rent a trailer (expencive) and tow it home?

I'm stressin about it cause I cant pass up the deal... and I also dont know what to do!!

Thanks!

Here's my vote.

Just flip it onto your bed but in reverse so the frame sticks out the back. Tiedowns are good.

Take the bed off strap it upside down to yours, put the rearend in the bed ,take a sawzall and cut the frame into pieces.Or take a torch, heat frame and bend it inwards to bolt a hitch onto.hitches are cheap if you have acces to torches.

If the truck your hauling it with has the same bed (generation and fleet/fleet) just put 2x4's in the stake pockets and slide the new bed over the 2x4's and like XXL stated just flip it onto your bed but in reverse so the frame sticks out the back. This will keep it from trying to slide off and use Tiedowns to hold it down. Put the rear end in the bed and you should be good to go.
Or, try to find a friend who has a motorcycle trailer that you can borrow. Strap it down on the MC trailer and away you go.

Why turn it around? I think that having that much material hangin out the back of my pickup would be illegal. I live in washington state, home of the uptight ***hole state cops.

The only sawzall I have access to is a battery powered makita ( I have three batts) and I dont have access to any kinda trailer, unless I rent one. (Unless someone in Western wa is nice enough to let me use thiers......)

I guess I don't understand your description then. It sounds like there is a couple of feet of frame channel sticking out the front end of the bed. If you don't turn it around, won't that frame channel hit your cab?

Looks like the guy was originally planning on making a trailer out of it. I figure the easiest way is to complete the job. Easy enough to drill out the frame ends and attach a trailer tow rig (coupler). Then splice in your turn signals, brake lights etc. to those of the trailer. Take pics and tow it home. Then when you get home swap boxes and you have a serviceable trailer.

if you dont have a trailer ball on your current truck, then you could make a quick tounge type thing that you could bolt on and attach it to your bumper if you dont have to drive to far dont worry about the lights

That shouldn't be a problem. I live in Georgia and they make us register and license all trailers also. I had a friend build me a motorcycle trailer several years ago. I asked the local tag office and they stated it had to have an ID # on it. I welded a number (I think it was a 6 digit #)(I just picked a #) on the underside of the trailer on one of the frame rails. I then went to my tag office and gave them this # as it's ID # and told them it was a home made trailer. Easy as pie they gave me a tag for it then.
Your state could be different - Just check with your local tag office. Anyway, just get a bill of sale with the new "trailer" and you should have 30 days before you have to tag it - Plenty of time to get it home.
