Popping Noise when turning right
I'm getting this soft popping noise from the front end when I turn right. I recently tighten up everything in the front but it has come back. This has stumped me for the couple weeks and cannot figure out what it is.
Any thoughts. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Not while braking but while turning... i can jerk the steering wheel to the right and hear it...
The wheels dont seem to have play in them...it doesnt sway to either side while driving |

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Full lock? If so, your probably hitting the steering stop, put a finger of grease on it.

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
You might check all of your grease-able joints I have had what seems to be the same problem as you, all it took was a little grease. If the joints are worn out no amount of grease will help, so you will have to replace them.

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Jack up the front of the truck. Put jackstands under the outer ends of the control arms under the ball joint. Set the truck down on the stands. Now grab the tire and 12 and 6 oclock. Push it back and forth. Another set of eyes to watch for what has play is very helpful. If you feel play up and down its likely a ball joint. Grab the wheel at 9 and 3 oclock and move it back and forth. It will clunk or have a bit of slop. This movement can come from either the idler arm,tie rods or the steering box. A loose wheel bearing will have movement in all directions. If you dont put the jackstands under the control arms before you shake the front end the coil springs will put tension on the ball joints and you wont be able to feel any play.

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Was sitting the truck today and noticed something. When I had my foot on the brake it would make the noise. When I had my foot off it didnt. Keep in mind this is when I'm parked. It runs make the noise when driving and turning right or left.
Stumped.... |

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
if its making the noise while your park with your foot on the brake i would check the calipers and pads and go from there, sit by the wheels and have some one push the brake peddle see if you can track it down better

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Mine was making a popping noise and ultimately the rear pivot point of the right lower control arm failed completely. I'd look for cracks in the arms as well just to be safe...

Re: Popping Noise when turning right
Mine started with a pop, then grew to a clunk and finished with a very loud scrapeing sound!
