4wd has a grinding noise in the front end!

My K10 has a grinding noise when you lock in the hubs, you don't have to ever put into 4 wd!

I am thinking its a dry bearing somewhere, but I have very little experience with 4wds. Can some one help with this?

Thanks,
Mattyj

Sounds like a bearing.

Yeah it sounds like a bearing to me too. Check the diff fluid first. When you remove the fill plug, if gear oil doesn't flow out then add some till it does.
If you still have noise, then it's the wheel bearings.
You need a torque wrench.
You also need a spindle nut wrench. You can find a Dana 44/10 bolt spindle nut wrench at almost any Autozone or wherever, right on the shelf.
Last thing you need is a manual for your truck for the step by step.

It's not hard, but it can take awhile to get to them. Dig in and learn some more about your truck's internals!

If you don't have a bearing packer, then just roll the new bearings in wheel bearing grease in your hand. Use a lot of wheel bearing grease.
