5 speed question...

The guy told me it's a 5-speed with no low gear... He wants 450 for it (didn't ask if the t-case goes with it) is it worth getting for my stickshift conversion?

Re: 5 speed question...

I know that, I'd either have to go with an older 208 or preferrably my 205 if it'll bolt up, even if adapters are needed. I still haven't gone and looked at the truck yet, as I'm still in the middle of other things.

Re: 5 speed question...

If it's a non-granny 5 speed chances are it's a nv3500 from a 88-up truck.

I was on the lookout for a 4500, but you think a 3500 is worth it?

Actually I have an SM465/NP205 with the crossmember, Blazer shafts, pedal assembly and if I need it floor tunnel. Just need to get a clutch and flywheel assy. for a 6.2 diesel. I personally would rather have more than just three main driving gears, considering it IS a 6.2.

Re: 5 speed question...

with 308s it wouldnt be to bad with a 4 gear. top gear in a 4 speed is 1-1. same as top gear in a 3 speed auto.. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 5 speed question...

It has 3:08's in it now. I found a set of 3:42's in the junkyard last Saturday, and since I couldn't today, next Saturday I may go snatch them up. The thing is lugging at 80mph now, and I have a BAD habit of going 80. Manual downshifting does help though.

I think both the trans and t-case were rebuilt, but I have no idea of the history. I DO know that the 350 that was bolted to it in the 1980 Blazer was a crate [Jasper ugh] engine.

Re: 5 speed question...

yeah they labor hard with 308s under 90 ish. my buddy has a 86 1/2 ton 4x4 4 speed with 10 bolts 308 ratio that he has converted into a wrecker with a normal box.and he gets roughly 18 mpg. my dads has 308s with an overdrive. only time he ever uses it is on the highway around 110. Re: 5 speed question...

On long highway trips I get 32mpg without a doubt, with A/C and hills trying to drag me down. my average is about 27 all around, running standard tires and that welded rear axle

My issue is the transfer case has too many problems.. I can;t even begin to explain, and the trans leaks like... EVERYWHERE, and I HATE automatics as it is.

If I found a trans I liked, yes I'd sell the Muncie, and as long as I can unbolt JUST the 205 from it to bolt to the new trans, basically yes it would have the adapter housing/shaft thing between. Right now it's sitting on my desk... my other other desk...
