Power Master #9600, I have one on both my 454 and 383. They're pricey but zero failure in 3 years.

I still have what appears to be the original starter and it's yet to fail me.

Re: What kind of starter are you using??

GM high torque mini starter on my 454. But I think with headers you may still need some wrap around that starter. I also have a remote solenoid installed, but that is a real touchy issue with some posting here.

Re: What kind of starter are you using??

Using a GM factory mini starter for later model vortec 350. I burned up two evilbay tilton style mini starters before I got the GM one and they were both a royal pain to shim correctly. The GM mini bolted right up and was perfect with no shims.....

Re: What kind of starter are you using??

Just one thing about the gm mini starter (and maybe other mini starters?)- there will be a slight gap visible at the top of the rectangular mounting base of the mini starter because that mounting base is different from the stock mounting base - at least that is the situation with my 83 C20 454 SM465.

Re: What kind of starter are you using??

PowerMaster 9612 (2x) one on 383 and another on 350. If the project budget is tight I go for Skipwhite 3HP-S215K mini-starter with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. All my truck engine builds use stagger mount starters.

Re: What kind of starter are you using??

Thanks for all of thre repsonses men but, I am working on a slim budget after having to buy a new daily driver. I am using 153 tooth flywheel on my toy with long tube headers. I guess I may need to get something with a dual bolt pattern just in case I change over to a 168 tooth flywheel and clutch package
