79-93 Mustang R&P Steering

Has anyone replaced there old 74-78 Mustang R&P with a newer 79-93 one? Does it just bolt in? I hear it is less sensitive than the older ones. I have the old rack with a reduced pressure pump on my 54, but it is still too quick for me. Thanks

I have a '94 rack for a SHO. that with a borgeuson kit and steers awesome. its about a turn and a half to lock and has a really good feel.

Re: 79-93 Mustang R&P Steering

I don't know which year Mll I have but it is almost 3 turns lock to lock,(2 3/4) it may be out of a T-bird. I did have to trim the ends a bit to fit t-rod ends and get enough toe in.
I also had the Very quick Mll R&P and I like the 2 3/4 one much better

Re: 79-93 Mustang R&P Steering

I have found one solution. Speedway Motors sells offset bushings part #910-34342 that let you put a 15 1/2" rack in a 16" on center mount and visa versa. No drilling or grinding of the passenger side crossmember hole. I will let you know how it works out. If anyone has used this set up please let me know. Thanks

Re: 79-93 Mustang R&P Steering

I did change from the 151/2 to the 16 on the black truck when I upgraded, and I just elongated the passenger side rack mounting bolt hole in the X-member, that was 45,000 miles ago and still going strong!
