Did these trucks have dual fuel tanks?

I was crawling around under my 71 C-20 yesterday and found an old fuel line running back to where the spare would be mounted. It just ends and is plugged up and the other end goes under the cab floor and stops. Was there ever a gas tank on these in that location? maybe dual tanks??? The truck has the tank behind the seat. The box has been changed so no way of knowing if there was ever a filler in that.

Is it possible someone put a blazer tank in there at one time for a spare tank? That would be about the right location -- just behind the rear axle.

The brackets holding the line to the frame look factory though. The line itself looks factory bent. The front part of the line ends where the other line comes down through the cab.

I have no history on this truck so im clueless.

Maybe I can get some digital pics later

Yes, you could have had an auxillary fuel tank option code "NL2". Here is an option sticker with it listed. It was on the drivers side in front of the rear tire.

See it makes me wonder too. I had a saddle tank on the drivers side, in front of the rear wheel. But I can switch to what tank I want to use from inside of the cab. Its a black switch that next to the door and seat. Did they make it only on one side or did they only come on both sides?

This line goes all the way back and points right to where the spare would be. Im taking the box off today if all goes well so I should be able to get some pics. The line is rusted badly like it was on there since 1971! LOL It had what appears to be factory clips holding it in. (I could be wrong)

While it may have been added (I doubt it) it sure looks stock to me. There's nothing else custom on this truck so I can't imagine someone adding a Blazer tank, then removing it later.

There's no auxillary tank listed on my label either.

Here's what the line looks like. Notice the clip. It has these running all along and the line is bent nicely. If someone added this, they did a nice job. But...what the heck happened to the tank? (im assuming it was a gas tank)

I did notice another oddity. There are old pop rivets running all around the gas filler hole on the cab. (found under some bodyfiller)

Im starting to think that someone did have a Blazer tank in there but it was removed by someone else later on. Maybe a crude patch over the filler hole???

Truck had the tank behind the seat when I bought it.

Hmmm. What year Blazer tanks would fit this? Im starting to consider going that way with it.

The 69-72 blazers all used the same tank -- a 21 gallon tank that fit between the frame rails right there and hung down about 3 inches.

I think that people are getting these tanks (poly versions of these are the best, IMHO), and putting them in their trucks. It should be a pretty simple installation -- there's just two straps that hold it up against the frame.

my truck has the saddle tanks on both sides. they haven't been used in some time and are rusted. it has the switch next to the seat also. gonna take them out but the bolts are rusted to the tank and won't break free. i also have the flapper doors in the side of the bed. which are covered in oklahoma red dirt which won't come off easy. my set up is an add on from the dealer i believe. can't find anything on my optoins sticker. anyone know the code for this?

edited for additional info

Gas tanks

I'm with 73Stepside, I also have 3 tanks. 1 on each side in front of the rear wheels and 1 behind the seat. Looks pretty stock to me. Will check the option sheet to see if it shows up for aux tanks.
