Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

It must be a set like these if wanting to trade for an NOS black wheel:

Both are hard to find items in NOS. My NOS set ran me quite a bit...but well worth it! BUMP for you Ray!

I would also be interested in purchasing your 3/4 ton caps if you decide you would like to sell them outright.

This is either NOS or as close as I have ever seen. The center hub is clean & bright and the grain is perfect... (the cap is just a nice used one I had stored with it)...not sure if I want to get rid of it, but this will let you see what you are after...might talk.

Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

Sorry 72super I finally saw the NOS in the box steering wheel today and it is not a 72 style wheel. While it is NOS it is 73 and up with the big wide horn button. I was afraid of this as I dealt with this guy before and had some of the same issues but I always check with him as he has had some ultra rare stuff in the past that was perfect. Good luck with your search I hope you find one. I am also looking for a green wheel for my other project as well.

Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

72 Super, I have an extra GM NOS in the box black w/blue bowtie horn button to go with franks black wheel if you guys end up making a deal. The picture that you just posted of your NOS 3/4 ton set kinda has the centers looking concave, meaning they are re-pianted yellow bowtie 73 up NOS pieces. All of the original 3/4 ton blue bowtie caps were convex/bulging outward in the centers, it could just be the angle of your picture also though. Mel

This may be a little better pic...the part # seems to be the same, but the caps are not. I couldn't figure that out. GM may have used the 73+ stamping as a "replacement" for 69-72.

Is that a six digit (later/yellow) or seven digit (earlier/blue) part number stamped on the boxes. Mel

Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

Frank, comparing the boxes of that to set to mine, those boxes look much newer than mine. Could it's like you said that GM was still making 69-72 #3963096 replacement caps using the tooling for the 73-up ? Maybe, I am not sure on that one. How does the paint in the center look? Factory, or possibly repainted.

Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

I wonder if I could cut the centers out & make them into 4X4 fronts? That could really be a big costly mistake if I screwed up...

Re: Nos 3/4 ton hub caps WTT for NOS Black steering wheel

Mel, I would be interested in your horn button, if you want to sell it?

My caps have the same part #3963096 as Richards, but they are the different style. Not sure on the differences, they don't appear to be repainted.

Thanks,
Ray

Ok, I will dig it out and get you some pics and post back here. Not sure if you posted a typo above, but I have P/N 3963098 as being for the early blue bowtie white painted caps and P/N 3963096 would be for the early blue bowtie bright caps. Here are a couple pics I took last last year showing some of the variances on this style of caps. Mel
