new progress pics!!

Well here are some updated progress pics finally! On Friday I had the entire cab minus the dash soda blasted...all the way down to bare metal! Saturday I cleaned the entire cab and shot it with epoxy primer. This was my very first time shooting paint with a gun and compressor...quite an experience. I had a co-worker of mine come over and "show me the ropes"...I learned alot to say the least. This week I will be filling the upper cab seam all the way around and after that I will apply the first coat of surfacer...block sanding...can't wait!!

not a single piece of metal was needed to repair the cab...what you see here is 31 yr old original GM steel!

Nice progress Jeff. Are you skipping A/C or are you doing like I am going to do and run a Vintage setup?

I think I am going to use my Painless system on the Jimmy (although I don't know why as it is working well right now..)

I love it. Looks my friend.

The thought has crossed my mind to do this to mine, but it quickly left my head after thinking about how much work it is.

Mike, DON'T DO IT until you are completely satified with the truck. I know you are as anal as I am about ugly stuff, you will have a new truck by the time you are finished, sorta like what I am doing...

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

Chris, no AC or heater right now, might add a Vintage Air down the road...but that is not too important since it doesn't see winter and if it gets hot the windows go down!

Greg, you have a nice truck too...and at least yours is in one piece.

Mike, what Chris said...finish the truck the way you want (exept for paint maybe) and then tear it apart!

Actually Dave, the wires are labeled directly on them where they go...looks very simple. Not only that, all the wires are longer so you can route them wherever you want. My engine compartment will be wire-free...I hope!

Sorry Eric, I really don't...I had the cargo light & firewall shaved along with a few misc holes on the back of the cab...the total bill was $300. If you saw how many holes there were on the firewall alone you would be amazed!

Here is my advice. Go to a body shop and get a quote...I have found that sometimes the person giving the estimate will offer to do it "on the side"...thus saving you some money. This works better at smaller shops as opposed to dealers or larger collision centers. If you don't like what they say at least you aren't obligated and can walk away. I have made quite a few friends this way as well.

Another thing, since the light runs directly thru the cab seam...be prepared to shave that too...unless you can duplicate the line on the piece that is going where the light used to be.

Just my .02

i accually planned on frenching in a 3rd brake light led in that place about 10" long.

i wanna get most of my body work done at the same time also. i need to have my dent fixed, rollpan installed(including led brake lights), mirrors, drip rails, door handles, emblems, cargo lamp, and upper cab molding all shaved, along with a tailgate skin welding in and the brake lights welded up. PLUS minor dents and dings patched up here and there.

the rollpan i'm gonna get from custom classics with the lights already in it.

so, you think thats a lot of body work?:p
