Steering column question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Not sure if this is the right area to post this, but here goes.

I have a '68 C10 LWB. I am a pretty big guy and when I sit in the truck, I interfere with the steering wheel.

Can I shorten the intermediate shaft and slide the steering column further back or is there a shorter column with tilt that I can get? Can I swap one from another year maybe?

Any info would be great.

I was building a 67 Mustang a while ago for a person who wanted the column shorter as his wife wanted to drive the car and her legs weren't comfortable with the pedals. As I remember, I called Ididit and they made a 2" shorter steering column and as I recall, it didn't cost more. Now this was a standard column, not tilt.

So one option is to call some of the aftermarket column makers and see if they can do a shorter column for you.

Don't know if any stock GM columns are shorter though. I've heard of some folks using 73+ van columns that I thought were shorter, but no personal knowledge.
