Loooong tranny dipstick and oil filler tube?

So I made a deal on a 70 SWB c10 yesterday, and I noticed something I'd never seen before. There is a filler tube (labeled engine oil on the plug) coming out from the passenger valve cover, and a really long transmission dipstick that parallels it coming toward the front of the truck. They both come come forward to just above and to the passenger side of the fan shroud. Is this something that could have come from the factory, or something that was added later for convenience? I've never seen them before, but I haven't really seen many pictures of completely original engines. You can kinda see the tubes on the bottom left of this picture, but I'll get a better one taken when I get it home next weekend.

Ahhh... OK. That makes more sense. That's good because now I won't feel bad about swapping it for the 383 in my stepside before I sell it.
