What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

truck progress plods along at the body shop.. they did some work on the bed and did alot of the rust repair on the bed.. they allegedly did some of the back coating on the hood and the fenders.. im not sure if they got any other work done.. I also dropped off the body to the kids car they are going to weld up and paint for me
Not much else happened getting ready for the big game
How about you all?

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

Got my fenders and steps fitted to the bed, and sprayed with bodycoat. Drilled out and retapped the broken studbolts on the exhaust manifolds. I had planned to get the topcoat on my rollbar, but with -20īc on the outside and +10īc in the workshop there was no point in trying. I hope itīs going to get warmer during the week, Im running out of time. Need to have the truck out of the workshop before we start to tear it down 4 weeks from now.

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

Started Wednesday, just got done today. Two new used fuel tanks and brackets, new sending units, new switching valve and fuel lines from the tank to the valve. New steering stabilizer, front shocks, front pads, calipers and master cylinder. Got the plow pump off, and cleaned up the wiring from that. Changed the oil and greased the front end, put a new battery in as well as a new starter. Everything was a **** show from the word go. Helping my dad with some things ate a lot of time, but it was good to spend some time with him. Fuel leaking from one of the tanks made removing ****ty rusted to **** 22 year old hardware tough. Oh yeah, one of the tanks I put in leaks. Awesome.

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

being that I have 3 day weekends this weekend was a square weekend I started friday morning by pulling the front end off my crew cab then yarded the engine out started to tare it down only to find it full of water(son of a) well me expecting the worst I went on a hunt for a new block. wasnt haveing any luck there so saturday I finished going through the engine looking at what could be saved. hmmm..... 40k on a motor thats been a pain in the a,,, sents it was first started
well I've found one of the problems I got some kind of grit in the oilpan so thats used up the bearings and crank and why its eating cams I dont know well put that to the question pile with why its full of water cant find any brakes in the block. so anyways I got up this morning and started looking on craigslist to see if I can find a truck with a big block that I could get cheep well I found a crew cab 4x4 cheep enough I can steal the engine. and it towed my toyota home real nice

Spent most of the day today working on wifes new truck. Rebuilt the carb, fixed blinkers, and set timing. Also took master cylinder off and found out it was wrong one. Right one will be here tuesday. Also picked my burb up from diff shop. Got a truetrac installed in front with 410 gears. Also got quote for duel 3 inch mandral bent exhast. Almost had heart attack. But it will be the last one i will ever need.

Got a busted windshield. Getting it fixed tomorrow. well that fixed the question, when to replace the quickly-fading-chrome-strip in the gasket.

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

Well Saturday I got the truck running, Filled it up with trans fluid and checked for leaks and then went to pull apart to only be teased by a lack of the right sockets and extensions..

Sunday I went back to pull a part and got a hood, and 2 inner fenders for $68...Failing yet again to get the fender i wanted because of the stupid bolt above the headlight that I need like a 12" ext to get too

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

Couple weeks ago I started a brake job, almost finished it today. Earlier I started with upgrading from the 11"-&-change rear drums to the 13" drums on my 9.5" 14 bolt, need to sort out some issues with the parking brake cables and the rear will be done. Today I put on a set of reman loaded AC Delco calipers with freshly turned rotors. While I had the hubs off I put new grease seals on the backsides and packed all of the wheel bearings.

Also removed about half a mile of coax from in the cab...back in the day when it was my dad's primary farm truck it has a CB, and two different cellular systems in it. I have 3x 3/4" holes in my roof, that will be patched someday, from the antennas. Most of the coax was coiled up behind the right rear speaker, gone now.

Re: What did you get done 2/5/12 Superbowl edition

I went with a couple friends to move a Corvette that's been parked in a field for the last 36 years. We aired up the tires and pulled it up on the trailer. The Vette is rough, way more work than I'd want to get into. Yes, that's a tree growing up through the header panel. That isn't snow on the ground, the guy had spread out an old tent. There were a lot of nice old cars on the property, none for sale, the owner said "I'm gonna fix them up". Sure. The only reason the Vette moved is because it belonged to someone else.

Sunday I made some more progress on a Radio Flyer wagon I rescued from the scrap pile. The "Rat Wagon" will be used by my wife to entertain the kids she babysits. Black, Orange, wide white walls, a Mexican blanket for upholstery. I still have a couple hours of metal work to do.
