need help with engine mounts/stands

hello fellas, ive got a 72, 350/350 turbo. the engine came in the truck in this position. problem is i can't get a throttle cable that is short enough. i bought the long one not knowing there was any differance. i bought the short one today at the nashville swap. it's still too long. one vender told me that me engine was in the 4wd position another told me that the stands are in the 6cyl position. can someone shed some light? i'm going to move it forward i guess. do i need different engine stands? there are no holes on the cross member for the forward position. there are some higher on the frame though.

The engine mount stands should be moved forward to the next hole, thats the way mine is with a 283 V8 originally. Im not sure about 4wd or 6cl mounting maybe check the glove box sticker? what engine did your truck originally have? I may have some pics showing where the stock V8 mounts go if you need.

They look like 6 cyl stands. I will take a pic of mine.

Re: need help with engine mounts/stands

heres mine, just as thelonerife mine are in the front holes. I dont know about these trucks but I do know on many model GM used different stands for V8 or I6 so you might need to get some V8 mount stands. Note that the mount stand on the pass side is right next to that bulge in the frame unlike yours.

Re: need help with engine mounts/stands

If they are small block stands (I don't know what the 6 cylinder stands look like), they are in the wrong position as noted above. It also appears they may be mounted on the wrong sides. In other words, the right stand on the left side and left stand on the right side.

Does your drive shaft fit? If you move the motor two inches forward, then it will be too short.

I can't quite tell on your stands which ones they are, but your engine is in the 6 cyl location. (4x4 location also) I think if you get a cable for a 4x4 it should work.

2nd that on the 4x4 cable....if you swap to V8 sb stands , you will move the eng 3 1/2" forward, & need driveline mods to boot crazyL

Re: need help with engine mounts/stands

I have a 69 K10 that originally came with a 6 cyl. in it. The PO swapped in a 283 V8 but it looks to me like the engine sits way far back. I am getting ready to swap to a 350/350 set up and was wondering if anyone knew of a site where all the optional engine stands and locations were described so I could figure out what I need?
