A/D guys and hood questions.

Has anyone had success with running actuators or any other hinge/spring combos? Pictures and info welcome!

100 views and no one? No one has used gas style actuators instead of the old springs? how about hinges?

I think that he used stock hinges with some type of gas struts. I believe that you have to be careful because they (from what I understand) can make the hood flair our on the back sides where it meets the cab. This is caused by the compression on the strut. It causes the hood to flex outward.

We all know that these hoods fit like crap as it is.

Ironworks also built a very stout brace to go under the hood on that truck. check post 165 on that thread.

As youngrodder said above the hoods on these things never did fit well even when new and getting them to fit and work right is one of the biggest challenges to working on one of these trucks.

I thought of the same thing. Not to mention that the parts they made were one off and not easily duplicated by those of us building in our home shops.
