Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

Playing around with a bowtie hood emblem off a 60-61, just wanted some input on if it should stay or go. Its proportioned nice and will require very minor hood mods on the bottom to complete. The top lines up great and is centered nice. Just so used to not having anything in the hood...not sure if I plan to keep it. Please give me some feedback on if it should stay or go. I can answer any questions on the install if anyone is interested.

Re: Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

Heres a good 3/4pic of the truck and the emblem. Here is the c50-60 emblem also...would have to place higher on hood (right under the spear), is larger and would require more hood mods. Not sure that I'll stay with either, but input be great. Funny that the 62-66 are some of the only chevy trucks to not have bowties on the hood.

The fit looks decent, but the piece looks like it's all alone out there to me.

I have a polished aluminum 63 grill to install & the winshield trim also...was hoping some more polished trim might bring it out a little more. Like I said...just getting some opinions on it...haven't settled on it 100% yet.

Re: Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

I agree with OEM, once the hood is one solid color it is going to look like it is floating out there by itself even more. on the 1960-1961 hood that emblem ends up on the same horizontal plane as the turn signals, on the 62-66 hood it ends up floating a bit higher and to me just does not add anything.

60 project hit it dead on! I think it looks really nice in the one close-up photo, but when you look at it from afar, it's "out of sorts".

I think it would look cool if you paint the orange to match the hood.

I guess with the way the turn signals are recessed, it makes it look like it "pokes out". I think it would look good in the grille center , my .02

You know I was going to say the exact same thing but left it out of my post... I agree if you want an emblem somewhere on the front, for 1963 I think the center of the grill is the place to go.

Has a very slight rake down to the ground. There are some minor mods that would have to be done to make it permanent. Ive got a pic of the clearance on the bottom. There is a lil over a 1/4" on the bottom. Couple of relief cuts and weld in small piece of metal would take care of it.

Re: Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

The c-50/60 emblem would go higher up, just underneath the spear on the hood. Like I said...this is all for feedback. Haven't set in stone either one. Just playing around with it....haven't seen anybody do anything like it, so being adventurous. Looks so different because for the last 20 years Im used to the standard 62-66 hood. Maybe theres a good reason no one has done it...?

Re: Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

It fits the contours of the hood nicely, so if you enjoy the look by all means go for it. I’m just not a fan of that ornament even on a 1960 hood. To my untrained eye it looks big and heavy, as if it was originally designed to go on a big rig.

The vents in the 1960 double pod hood had a sense of delicate refinement, and to me the emblem looked out of place. I love the look of the 1960 hood, but if I had one it wouldn’t have the center emblem. I’ve attached a couple of examples with and without:

Perhaps the 1960 ornament would blend in better if the center insert was chrome or red, and the bulk of the casting was painted body color. Or maybe if some custom paint like scallops flowed back onto the hood.

i think without the early hood to have the signals to break it up a bit that it steals to much attention from the front end.

good luck!

Re: Opinions wanted....60-61 hood emblem on 1963 hood

It's interesting how it's much more subtle on the 60-61 grill. I guess the big eyebrows are so large it lets the emblem blend in. On the 62-66 hood it's more "bam" in your face and it's the only thing you notice. Kinda makes it look like a big nose. As mentioned above the flat black paint might be making it more highlighted.

Yeah...the primer definitely doesn't help. Maybe Ill try and color match the hood a lil better and see how it looks.
