How are the Chevrolet letters attached to tailgate band?

I have a western truck I just bought with a bunch of faded out woodgrain trim and I was wondering how to re-decal the tailgate band. I thought the letters were riveted or pot metal.
Is this a waste of time to try to mess with?

Re: How are the Chevrolet letters attached to tailgate band?

The letters are pot metal and should have studs on the back that GM somehow flared out to "rivet" the letters to the tailgate band. I replaced mine using speed nuts similar to these http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/Spe...MF2?Pid=search, but I don't recall the size I used. As I recall, I trimmed the ends of the nut to allow them to sit closer to the back of the tailgate band and pushed and turned them onto the studs using flat nosed pliers. They seem well attached, but the band has yet to be installed on the tailgate.
